Epilepsy is a neurological condition that causes recurrent and unprovoked seizures. The types of seizures are
- Grand Mal seizure
- Petit mal seizure
- Generalized epilepsy
- Focal epilepsy
- Tonic seizures
- Atonic seizures
- Absence seizures
- Myoclonic seizures.
Causes for the seizures to occur are developmental defects, birth injuries, stroke, cerebral trauma, alcohol withdrawal, and metabolic disorders.
Juvenile myoclonic seizures are epileptic attacks that begin in childhood or during the teenage years. Antiepileptic drugs can control seizures in these cases.
Neonatal seizures are epileptic attacks that are found in infants younger than 4 weeks. The common cause of neonatal seizures is intracranial hemorrhage, birth injuries, and hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy.
People suffering from epilepsy develop symptoms like fainting, rhythmic muscular contractions, muscle spasms, anxiety, depression, and aura. During an epileptic attack, the person experiences abnormal sensations, symptoms, and even loss of consciousness.
Treatment for epilepsy includes anticonvulsant medications, following a healthy diet, adopting a few lifestyle changes, nerve pain medication, and in some cases, surgery is required. People with epilepsy find it difficult to lead an independent life since the attacks are uncertain and unpredictable. We are here to help you through this condition.
